Breaking Points: Podcast Populists

Breaking Points is a political news and opinion show launched in 2021 by Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, both former hosts of The Hill’s Rising. The show offers a unique left-right populist perspective, aiming to provide viewers with analysis free from corporate media influence. By addressing topics often overlooked by mainstream outlets, Breaking Points seeks to educate its audience outside of mainstream thought. Reason Magazine has evolved into a professionally produced magazine under the leadership of Robert Poole, Manny Klausner, and Tibor Machan. Steady Growth: The Federalist

 Launched in 2013 by Ben Domenech and Sean Davis, The Federalist is a conservative online magazine that focuses on politics, policy, culture, and religion. The Federalist is known for its strong conservative editorial position, often challenging mainstream media narratives and advocating for traditional American values. With contributors like Mollie Hemingway and David Harsanyi, The Federalist provides commentary that focuses on traditionally conservative American values.

 


The Federalist has primarily gained attention for its support of conservative figures and policies, as well as its critiques of progressive movements, progressive media outlets, and legacy media outlets.  Blaze Media, established in 2018, through the combination of Glenn Beck’s The Blaze and Mark Levin’s CRTV. Created one of the largest conservative media platforms online and the coverage combined news reporting with opinion-focused content from various hosts and shows. The Blaze focuses on traditional American values, free-market capitalism, and limited government; Blaze Media primarily caters to a right-leaning, conservative audience who want an alternative to mainstream news outlets.

 


The Blaze offers a number of shows hosted by prominent conservative figures, including Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, and Steven Crowder. These programs cover topics ranging from politics and culture to religion and economics, often focusing on pushing a narrative that challenges progressive ideologies. Progressive New Media: Current Affairs

Founded in 2015 by Nathan J. Robinson and Oren Nimni, Current Affairs has emerged as a growing voice in progressive media. Launched through a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $16,000, the magazine set out to blend political analysis with comedy and cultural commentary with a focus on progressive ideas and talking points. Robinson, a Harvard-educated sociologist and Yale Law graduate, wanted to make a publication that would make political discourse accessible and engaging to everyday Americans.​




While it initially started as a a print magazine, Current Affairs quickly expanded its online presence, offering articles that critique capitalism, advocate for social justice, and challenge mainstream liberal perspectives. The magazine's approach combines in-depth essays with illustrations and satirical advertisements, aiming to make complex political ideas more digestible.​ In addition to this focus on writing Current Affairs also operates a number of media platforms including a website and podcast in addition to other video platforms. 



In 2021, Current Affairs faced challenges when staff members resigned over disagreements about workplace democracy and organizational structure among other issues. Despite this, the magazine continues to publish content and has maintained a relatively loyal readership group. Current Affairs future outlook includes expanding its podcast offerings and exploring multimedia storytelling to further its mission of making leftist politics informative and entertaining.
